I spent the day yesterday experimenting with generating whimsical characters on a white background.

I first built a moodboard of whimsical characters that were all isolated on a white background. Or, I took the image into Photoshop and did very rough remove background and resaved the image so it did have a transparent background. I didn’t worry if the selection was perfect as it’s just going into the catelog for the moodboard references.

Then I asked CHATgpt to build me a list of prompts that I could use for whimsical characters to generate. I started by asking CHAT for the features of whimsical art so I could review what it already knew about the genre to ensure that it would build me what I envisioned. It returned a great description.

I then asked it for 25 topics or short descriptions of an artwork of a whimsical character.

I took each of those description and I added at to the end of the prompt the words “on a white background” and I used the moodboard I build for “Whimsy On White” profile. This is the profile for that moodboard --profile phqn7eb

Here are a few samples of the images rendered using this moodboard. I found that I still had to add the “on white background” to the prompt or I randomly got backgrounds on some of the images. Even with both the profile and the prompt, I still got about 10% of the images returned with some type of a solid background color. Usually this was driven by the text of the prompt, like it said it was night, so I got a black background.
